                                                                     The Tarpon Triathlon

How did the race get it's start?
This race started as a way to raise money for a public swim team in Houma, LA - The Bayou Black Tarpons.  The team has experienced a large growth as it is the only public team in Houma.  This allows people to participate in swimming who otherwise would not be able to afford it.  However, in keeping the cost to the families as low as possible, we have a need for more fundraising in order to supply the team with appropriate, current equipment.  In brainstorming on what we could do, it was suggested that we start a triathlon, since there were no other triathlons in Houma at the time, and so it began...

Tell me more about the Swim Team-
The Bayou Black Tarpon Swim Team is a non profit public swim team in Houma, LA.  It got its start in 1999 with just a few swimmers who had no clue what swimming competitively was all about and in some cases not even knowing how to swim at all.  We joined the South Central Swimming Association (SCSA) in 2000.  Since joining the league, the team has consistently grown and shown improvement earning many awards along the way including being the SCSA league Champions in 2008!  They went undefeated in dual meets and placed 3rd overall at the meet of champs in 2009.  We registered more than 200 swimmers registered ranging in age from 4 - 18.
